The Fundaci\u00f3n Salvador Segu\u00ed<\/strong><\/a> asked me to design a poster for an talk they are organising about the social revolution of 1936, in the memory of those who made it happen. The event forms part of the 90th anniversary celebrations of the revolution, and also the 15th birthday of self-managed social center, Can Batll\u00f3<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE BRIEF<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The foundation shared with me the specific images, text and logos they wanted included on the poster. They also recommended I look at some of their previous posters for inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE PROCESS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I experimented with various layouts, opting for a bright red and white palette, using the red of the foundation’s logo. The idea was to create a very bold, geometric layout, that also had an organic flow. I used thin red frames to tie the two disparate images to the bright red text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The title font used is Umbral<\/strong><\/a>, digitised by Just Seeds artist Alec Dunn<\/a><\/strong>. The font originally came from an anarchist Spanish Civil War publication called Umbral, so it felt fitting to use it for this project. To visually link the poster with another event the foundation was hosting in June<\/a>, I added Clarendon NRW extra narrow as a secondary font.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
