THE PROJECT
Local Palestine solidarity group El Garraf amb Palestina asked me to create a poster for a demonstration against Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
THE BRIEF
The group specifically asked me to design something that humanised the Palestinian people who are currently experiencing bombardment, starvation and lack of shelter or medical care. They wanted something eye catching that also included their supplied text and organisation logos.
THE PROCESS
I chose to use an illustration by Romy Torrico, that was available for use by community groups via Just Seeds. To make space for all the text and logos, I simplified the illustration a little, focusing on the children depicted. I used the font Umbral by Alec Dunn. In Alec’s words: “Umbral came from an anarchist Spanish Civil War publication of the same title (subtitled: the magazine of the people) and this particular adaptation came from the text on a promotional poster.”
